Project Power is a free, at-home online experience consisting of fun lessons and physical activity challenges which encourage children and families to stay healthy together. Nearly one in three children in the United States are overweight or obese. Through the program, the ADA intends to slow the trajectory of childhood obesity by focusing on health promotion, nutrition education, increased physical activity, and family involvement to prevent obesity, type 2 diabetes, and its complications for youth ages 5–12.
\r\n“Adults aren’t the only ones who reap the physical and mental wellness benefits of physical activity and social interaction during this time,” said Kelly Mueller, Vice President, Consumer and Community Impact for the ADA. “By educating youth at risk for developing type 2 diabetes and their families, we can change the course both in the short-term with the current COVID-19 pandemic, but also for years to come.”
\r\nQuest for Health Equity has provided a grant to support the program’s focus on kids’ health, nutrition education and wellness to prepare them to make healthy lifestyle choices. Quest for Health Equity is a wide-ranging initiative to address and reduce health disparities in underserved communities, including those impacted by COVID-19. The multi-year initiative provides a combination of donated testing services, education programs, partnerships, and funding to support initiatives to close the gap in healthcare disparities in underserved communities.
\r\n“The Project Power mission to slow the trajectory of childhood obesity and prevent type 2 diabetes is closely aligned to our Quest for Health Equity program,” said Mandell Jackson, General Manager and Vice President of Quest for Health Equity. “We are proud to support this important initiative to help increase access for children and families to provide resources and tools they can use to improve their health and overall wellness in a fun and engaging way.”
